Managing a team of skilled and unskilled facilities operatives requires a combination of, being competent and knowledgeable in the skills of your team allowing you to have complex technical discussions with your engineers and make more informed decisions.You also need excellent people skills to ensure that you act and communicate in such a way as to ensure that all team members feel equally valuable to the team, understand its objectives and their role in achieving them.Listen to your team, they are the experts, that’s why you employed them, allow them to make decisions for themselves within their areas of expertise, they will respect you for that.

In my experience I prefer to identify the strength of my every team member first and based on their strength delegate the work, next is approachability you must be approachable enough that your team feel comfortable to discuss with you issues pertaining to the job area. Last but not least your working style make it very clear to your team what you expect from them.

Don’t be the corporate version of a helicopter parent, but stay close enough to your leaders to not let them make a catastrophic failure. A balanced approach of trust and guidance will empower your employees and make them feel comfortable that you will have their back. Structurally, there is little difference between a technical based organization structure, or a straight managerial based structure. Base how you set up you team by the needs of the business. Then trust ion your team and empower them as much as you can to do their job. Remember, “you don’t hire smart people to tell them what to do, you hire smart people so they can tell you what needs to be done” (credit for the quote goes to Steve Jobs).

In my experience, beyond the training for your entire crew, you shall try to identify the leaders with each trade team (electricians, plumbers, etc.). Then, you shall work on developing their leadership skills and, officially, name each one of them team leaders for their own trade and empower them to lead their crews. It will take lots of working load from your shoulders.Keep in mind that the only thing you can not delegate is your own responsibility.

Treinar quem, estamos num momento tao unico que os funcinarios nao querem aprender e muito menos ser lideres nao sei onde vamos parar com essa situação. onde um ajudante prefere ficar eternamente como ajudante à aprender se nao fosse tragico era comico. vai acontecer o que aconteceu a 50 anos atras um exercicito de pessoas vindas do nordeste para ocupar essas vagas porem o estado nao tem estrutura para recebelas com dignidade. enfim critica a situação.governo deveria criar politicas para receber esses colaboradores de outros estados que vem nos ajudar nessa falta de mao de obra.

Best way to manage a large number of teams is to work on yourself.When your team are aware of your capacity in leadership and practical endeavor. Ensure you have an adequate knowledge in the field to be managed, self development is crucial. Once your team know that you're capable they'll will align, managing them won't be a difficult one. Experience and knowledge can sometimes be more valuable than simply a high performer or someone with training and certifications, especially in older facilities. I remember a 50 year old long term care facility with some equally old infrastructure. One of the top 3 most valuable team members was a retirement age relatively low performer because he knew the building better than anyone else.
